According to Medical News Today, Mental Health refers to a person’s cognitive, behavioral, and emotional well-being. It also influences how we deal with stress, interact with people, and think clearly.
Every year on October 10, World Mental Health Day is observed to raise awareness and to integrate efforts to assist those experiencing mental health challenges. The World Health Organization (WHO) has launched a global campaign for World Mental Health Day every year since 2013.
According to Dévora Kestel, Director of Mental Health and Substance Use Mental Health and Substance Use in the World Health Organization, Discrimination, and human rights violations against people with mental health conditions are widespread in communitie. Stigma remains to be a hindrance to inclusivity and access to appropriate care for Mental Health.
One of the ways to address the problem, the World Federation for Mental Health (WFMH) announced the theme for World Mental Health Day 2022, which is ‘Make mental health for all a global priority”.
Sorok Uni Foundation has also been supporting this advocacy through the Kaagapay Mental Health Program. It is an initiative under the Rehabilitation Program that aims to provide assistance to Sorok’s beneficiaries with mental health concerns through consultations, psychological sessions, and medications.This also aims to promote mental health awareness for individuals who suffer from mental health issues, minimizing the risks of anxiety and depression.
Apart from the beneficiaries, Sorok also encourages everyone to have a healthy well-being through the Kaagapay Virtual Run 2022. It is a fundraising activity that promotes physical and mental health wellness to participants.
This year’s theme has been a call for people of all sectors to express and be vocal about securing a healthy mental health in both public and private spaces. Sorok Uni Foundation is one in promoting mental wellness, as part of goal in rebuilding people’s lives.
